- What is the Neural Fair Value 25 portfolio?
- Stocks in the Neural Fair Value 25 portfolio are picked for two primary reasons-favorable fundamentals, as measured by our Fair Value system, and favorable characteristics for near-term price appreciation, as measured by our Neural System. The latter may need some more explaining. After stocks have been run through our Fair Value system, they are screened by our proprietary neural network-a computer program that picks stocks based on what the market has currently been favoring. This program, which "learns" much like the human mind, takes an entire day to run. In the end, the top 25 stocks selected through this process go into our NFV25 Portfolio. For more information on the portfolio, see the regular updates in The Outlook.
- When are changes made to the Neural Fair Value 25 portfolio?
- Changes are made only on Tuesday mornings, though they are not necessarily made every week.
- Where can I find the latest information on the Neural Fair Value 25 portfolio?
- The Outlook reports last week's changes to the portfolio as well as monthly full-page updates.
- How is the performance for the Neural Fair Value 25 calculated?
- Our performance numbers are calculated by using each constituent stock's closing price on the day that change was announced.
- What is the Platinum Portfolio?
- A stock is added to the Platinum Portfolio when it has been given a 5 STARS ranking and a 5 Fair Value ranking. Stocks are deleted from the portfolio only after they have lost both of their top rankings.
- When are changes made to the Platinum Portfolio?
- Changes can be made at any time-whenever a stock acquires or loses both a 5 STARS ranking and a 5 Fair Value ranking.
- Where can I find the latest information on the Platinum Portfolio?
- Under "Platinum Portfolio" on The Outlook. In addition, The Outlook reports last week's changes to the portfolio as monthly full-page updates.
- How is the performance for the Platinum Portfolio calculated?
- Our performance numbers are calculated by using each constituent stock's closing price on the day that change was announced.
Please note, the price used for performance calculations differs from the price that appears on the addition, deletion and composition pages. The prices on the latter pages reflect the stocks' closing prices on the previous Friday. This is because our Fair Value model needs a week's worth of data to produce results, so we cite the last price that was used for our calculations.

- High-Yield Portfolio
- This portfolio contains the highest-yielding stocks with STARS rankings of 3 or higher.
- Income Portfolio
- This is simply a list of stocks with above-average yields.
- Why do the STARS changes on The Outlook differ from those in other sources?
- The STARS changes on The Outlook are updated daily after the close. They reflect changes made through that time period. The STARS changes reported in the latest The Outlook will differ because the issue only reflects changes made through the close of trading on the Friday before the issue's cover date.
In addition, STARS changes posted to The Outlook telephone hotline may differ slightly from those posted to the website because of timing issues.
